THE FRED PAGE CUP

Fred Page Cup

The British Columbia Hockey League playoff champions are currently awarded The Fred Page Cup. The trophy is named after Fred Page whom was an avid hockey supporter and builder.

The Champions are currently decided by a best-of-seven game series between the Coastal Conference Champions and the Interior Conference Champions. It must be noted however that in the past this series has been decided by a best-of-five, a round-robin, a 10-point system and has been stopped mid-series. Also, in 1987 the series ended 5-0 (according to the BCHL Now 2005/2006 Year Book, maybe be a printing error , or, it was a best-of-nine).

From 1962- 1967 League Champions were awarded the Davies Cup. The Kamloops Daily Sentinel reported on September 18, 1961..."The league, during its regular meeting at Vernon Sunday, also voted to accept the Davies Cup and present it annually to the Okanagan champion."... Named after, Ernie Davies who, owned and managed the Central Hotel(now Central Pub Station and Central Barber Shop location), presented the first one to Buck Crawford, of the Kamloops "Central" Rockets, in 1962.

From 1968 - 1972 the League Champions were awarded ??? the Mowat Cup??.

From 19?? - 1995 the League Champions were awarded the Nat Bailey Trophy. The trophy was donated by Nat Bailey, the owner of the White Spot Restaurants. This was because the league expanded to include two former Pacific Coast Junior Hockey League teams into the fold.

The Nat Bailey Trophy was renamed from 1996 to 1998, as a result of a major sponsorshhip, to the Subway Cup.

NATIONAL PLAYDOWNS

The League Champions, in the past, would go on to the national championship playdows for the Memorial Cup, Manitoba Centennial Trophy, the Royal Bank Cup, the National Junior 'A' Championship and the Centennial Cup from 1961 to 2021.

The national championship playdowns involved winning the series competion of the Mowat Cup, Doyle Cup, Abbott Cup and the Western Canada Cup to advance to the national championship.

OPT-OUT OF CJHL

On March 24th, 2021 the BCHL opted out of the Canadian Junior Hockey League which, made them ineligble for the national playdown, the The Doyle Cup and subsequently the Centennial Cup .

INDEPENDENT LEAGUE

As of June 1, 2023 the league had become independent of Hockey Canada as they did not renew the League Aggrement with them. This move made the BCHL ineligible for any sanctioned Hockey Canada events including any national playdowns.
